Completists and casual consumers alike should be aware: None of the music on this set is remastered, nor does it contain any live material. This box packages most of Meshuggah’s recorded work-7 studio albums and 3 EPs. On these two tracks alone, “Future Breed Machine” and “Beneath,” the Swedish quintet singlehandedly revolutionized metal by creating a startlingly fresh rhythmic template that's been widely imitated but never duplicated. Even 20-plus years later, the first two tracks from Meshuggah’s 1995 sophomore album Destroy Erase Improve still induce that goosebump-y feeling of a chapter in music history being written in real time. ![]() ![]() It’s always unmistakable when you hear it: the sound of a genre being thrust head-first into its future.
